Cradles to Crayons
In honor of MLK Day of Service, SHAC organized a warm coat and clothing drive to support the Philadelphia chapter of Cradles to Crayons – a charity that provides children living in homeless or low-income situations with essential items they need to thrive at home and at school. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 3 in 5 Philadelphian children live in poverty, and it is C2C’s vision that one day every child will have what they need to feel safe, warm, valued and ready to learn. Our providers and colleagues across SHAC’s sites of service generously donated new and gently used winter coats, clothing and school supplies, which were dropped of at C2C’s Giving Factory where they will be sorted and quickly distributed to area kids in need. We learned that C2C services 3,000 to 8,000 local kids each week in our city alone! It is an impressive operation and we look forward to partnering with C2C on future service engagements for years to come.
